Our group work includes the following programmes:

The Wilderness Experience

An outdoors activity-based therapeutic programme for young people aged 11 to 17.  It consists of four-day camps for groups of 10 to 12 children and one follow-up session. The programme operates out of the Lions Bush Hutt, Oakura Bush, overlooking Whangaruru Harbour (45 minutes north of Whangarei).  The camps are run by full time NZQA qualified outdoor instructors.

The Incredible Years

A parenting programme that provides parents/caregivers with useful information and practical guidelines on how to handle a variety of challenges.  It consists of weekly two-hour group sessions for up a minimum of 10 weeks.

Leadership programme

A programme to further develop the leadership skills of young people identified at school as having leadership potential. It consists of monthly one-day sessions over one year.

Mentoring programme

A programme to assist young people to set and achieve life goals. It consists of monthly mentoring sessions over one year.

Employee Assistance Programme

In Whangarei Family Works Northern is also contracted to provide the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) for numerous organisations.  Via EAP employees can get confidential advice and support in dealing with personal and/or work problems that could or are significantly affecting their work performance.
